Cleveland Browns: Tyrod Taylor believes in Haley’s scheme
By Randy Gurzi
New Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor seems to believe in the offensive scheme brought over by first-year offensive coordinator Todd Haley
Their time together has been brief, but it apparently has already been productive. Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley is making a good impression on their new quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
Both came to the team this offseason after being part of other AFC franchises. Taylor was the starting quarterback with the Buffalo Bills and Haley held the same position with a divisional rival in the Pittsburgh Steelers.
General manager John Dorsey swung a trade to get Taylor for a third-round pick and he looks to be the starter until No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield is ready to take the reins.
That may be a while if Taylor is playing well, and he expects to in Haley’s system. During OTAs, the veteran quarterback is already a fan of his new offense and praises Haley for having a scheme that fits it’s players — instead of the other way around.
"“It is a player-driven offense. I believe that we have the weapons and the talent on the offensive side of the ball to go out there and make explosive plays. If you look at the depth chart, there is talent at every position. It is our job to fine tune the execution part of it each and every day and go out and play winning football on Sundays.” — Taylor said according to Matthew Florjancic of WKYC.com"
That’s the sign of a good coach when they can make things fit what players do best. In old school football, coaches used to try and force a player to fit their ideals, rather than use the skills their players had.
This is encouraging not only for the athletic Taylor, but when thinking about Mayfield as well. Like Taylor, Mayfield is a bit undersized and unorthodox as a quarterback. Old school coaches have failed with such players, but a guy like Haley could bring the best out of them if he moves what he does around to suit them.

It’s till early, but things are finally feeling better with the Browns. And Haley is a big reason why.
