It’s easy to disregard complaints from a former player, but issues brought up by Isaiah Crowell highlights the importance of Todd Haley on the Cleveland Browns

There were several moves this offseason by Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey that fans found exciting. The ones that jump to mind have to be the change out of the entire quarterback room, most of the running back room and the secondary adding three new starters.

While the player additions will be huge, there’s another move that could produce an even bigger payoff. The Browns brought in Todd Haley this offseason to take over play calling and the new offensive coordinator has done a great job of this in the past.

Just having a steady and trusted hand taking care of the offense while head coach Hue Jackson can focus on the bigger picture will be a help. It could also trickle down to the players and help them understand their roles better too.

Apparently this was an issue in the past as former Browns running back Isaiah Crowell — now with the New York Jets — complained of never knowing his role in the Cleveland offense.

"“You just never knew,” Crowell said of his role via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “Sometimes it was [an every-down situation], sometimes it wasn’t. You just never knew week in and week out. I felt like that was discouraging and annoying.”"

It’s easy to disregard that comment as a former player who is just upset with his old franchise. That may not be the case though.

One of the biggest reasons Haley came in is because Jackson has struggled being the head coach and the offensive mastermind.

Dorsey had to do something and while he must have believed in Jackson as the boss, there needed to be a compromise where the team could start to maximize their talent.

Crowell won’t be missed in Cleveland as they replaced him with Carlos Hyde and Nick Chubb. He apparently also won’t miss the Browns.

Thankfully though, the team likely won’t have to contend with the problems he brought up and found to be frustrating.

Haley will bring stability to the offense and while Crowell may have been trying to throw a jab at his old team, he actually pointed out how smart it was to bring the new play caller on board.
