There’s some question about who will get the bulk of the carries in a crowded Cleveland Browns backfield, but they’re set to ride the hot hand

The Cleveland Browns made some noise this week with a member of the tam claiming they’re going to make the post season. Part of the reason for his excitement is their influx of talent this offseason.

The group that may be the best overall is running back with Carlos Hyde, Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson lining up behind the quarterback. That creates an issue with who will get the ball, but it’s a good problem to have.

Coaches continue to insist it won’t be an issue and they’re now coming out saying they plan to ride whoever has the hot hand.

Prophesied playoff run unlikely due to road schedule

Martin McConnell looks at Christian Kirksey’s claim that the Browns will make the playoffs, but says it’s only possible if they get much better on the road than they have been.

"“Ultimately, all three of those guys can run our running game,” the RB coach added. “Duke can do a few more things in the passing game. Ultimately, we feel like that is a position of strength. Coach [Bill] Parcells taught me a long time ago, do not turn a position of strength into a weakness. You would like to keep it a strength, and we are fortunate that is where we are.”"

It’s an easy idea to preach, but it has to be executed correctly. Some teams have tried to use in a committee in the past and it’s limited the effectiveness of the backs who need multiple carries. If it works though, it is a great thing.

Scot Mccloughan talks up the Browns’ chances, even after departure — Chris Pokorny, SB Nation

"Called LB Genard Avery a “stud.”Asked “can they win a game first?” Mccloughan said, “I’ll buy you a $50 gift card to Target if they don’t.” OK, maybe that one isn’t going out on too much of a limb, but still."

McCloughan helped out as a consultant during the 2018 NFL Draft. We all knew he was huge on Baker Mayfield, so drafting him No. 1 overall was no doubt big for him. He seemed to like all their other picks as well.
