Greatest players in Cleveland Browns history: 15. Mike McCormack
Mike McCormack played nine seasons for the Browns from 1954 until 1962. He played most of his career at right tackle for Cleveland, but he also played middle guard for the Browns during the 1954 season.
In his career with the Browns, he received All-NFL honors in every season he was in a Browns uniform. He made the Pro Bowl five times during his career, including the final three seasons of his career. McCormack was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 1984. He is also a member of the Cleveland Browns Ring of Honor.
During his time as a tackle for the Browns, he helped protect quarterback Otto Graham in the 1950’s and was one of the blockers that helped Jim Brown become one of the greatest rushers in NFL history. He won two NFL Championships with the Browns in 1954 and 1955.
McCormack played one season for the New York Yanks in 1951, making the first of his six Pro Bowls. He did not play the next two seasons as he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After McCormack returned from service, the Browns acquired McCormack in 1954 after trading ten players to the Baltimore Colts.
After he finished his playing career, McCormack was a head coach for three teams, compiling a record of 29-51-1.
