Cleveland Browns: 30 greatest players in franchise history

Greatest players in Cleveland Browns history: 12. Bobby Mitchell
Although he played mostly as a complimentary back to Jim Brown during the beginning of his career, Bobby Mitchell contributed heavily into the Browns offense. He played in only four seasons with Cleveland, but his 2,297 rushing yards as a Brown is the 10-best in franchise history. He also added 16 touchdowns on the ground, and averaged 5.4 yards per carry.
But not only was he a solid rusher, Mitchell also contributed as a receiver and a returner. With the Browns, Mitchell amassed 1,462 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. As a returner, he had a total of six return touchdowns, 607 punt return yards and 1,550 kick return yards.
Mitchell made the Pro Bowl only one time with the Browns, but was never the star player like he was in Washington. The Browns traded Mitchell to Washington in 1962 to acquire Ernie Davis. Once in Washington, the team moved Mitchell to wide receiver and he became one of the best players in the league.
Mitchell was a second team All-Pro twice with the Browns and he is a member of the Browns Ring of Honor. Mitchell was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 1983.
