The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news that you need to know, including the forgotten Browns quarterback that is playing a vital role to the future of the team.

All of the talk about the Cleveland Browns quarterbacks revolves around Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield, and rightfully so. Both are talented players that are going to be fighting for a starting job, even though the starting job is almost guaranteed to be Taylor’s.

With Mayfield being a first overall pick, it adds another dynamic to the situation between the two quarterbacks. There will be a lot of attention from the national media wondering when Mayfield will finally hit the field as a starter.

But one of the things that is not being talked about is the lead up to Mayfield earning his first start. The Browns do not want to throw Mayfield into the fire without knowing for certain that he knows how to prepare as a starter.

He will be learning how to do that from the Browns quarterback that has received the least amount of attention this off-season: Drew Stanton. The Browns signed Stanton to a two-year deal in March with little fanfare. But Browns fans underestimate the role that he will be filling for the Browns.

That story and more can be found in today’s edition of Daily Dawg Tags.

Drew Stanton is the forgotten Browns QB but has an important role – Scott Petrak, The Chronicle-Telegram

"Stanton, 34, is the forgotten man in a quarterback room receiving loads of attention. Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy and was the No. 1 pick in the draft, while Tyrod Taylor has cemented himself as the starter and team leader."

Having a veteran quarterback like Stanton to be behind the scenes helping Mayfield will be very beenficial to the rookie’s development. Although not much has been said about Stanton, he has one of the most important roles of any player on the roster.

NFL scout believes Baker Mayfield will be on bench for years

The belief is that Mayfield will be on the field starting at some point in 2018 and the beginning of 2019 at the very latest, but one NFL scout thinks that Mayfield could be stuck on the bench for longer than that.

Cleveland Browns wisely piling up options at left tackle – Terry Pluto, cleveland.com

"Just because Shon Coleman took many of the snaps at left tackle in spring practices, don’t assume he’ll be the replacement for Browns legend Joe Thomas."
