Cleveland Browns: Early potential head coach hires if Hue Jackson is fired
By Dan Justik
Dave Toub
Dave Toub has been the special teams coordinator with the Kansas City Chiefs since 2013, the same season that Dorsey became Kansas City’s general manager. Because of the connection between the two, it would not be a shock to see Toub get an interview if the Browns fired Jackson, and Toub could be the guy that Dorsey would want to hire.

Toub has been coaching in the NFL since 2001. He got his start as a special teams quality control coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. In that time, he coached with Andy Reid and was directly working with John Harbaugh.
After two seasons with the Eagles, Toub became the special teams coordinator of the Chicago Bears. In his time with the Bears, Toub helped in Devin Hester becoming one of the league’s all-time best returners and Robbie Gould becoming one of the best kickers at that time.
After Lovie Smith was fired from the Bears following the 2012 season, Toub interviwed for the head coaching job. After not getting the job, Toub left Chicago to join Reid in Kansas City.
Toub was expected to get a head coaching job following the 2017 season, but a job did not come to fruition. Former Bears director of college scouting Greg Gabriel who worked with Toub in Chicago believes that Toub should be a head coach – via Conor Orr of The MMQB.
"“I personally feel that this is the year that, not only is he a good candidate but he actually gets it this year,” Gabriel said. “He’s been through the interview process in the past. When you look at his resume, he’s been the top special teams coordinator in the league for like forever. He’s held coordinator positions longer than any of these other candidates have been coordinators. He’s from the Andy Reid tree, and the history of those guys having success as coaches is tremendous. “Talk to anyone he’s ever worked with or coached and they’ll say the same thing. This guy deserves to be a head coach.”"
With the amount of experience he has in the NFL, Toub will be a NFL head coach very shortly. Having a connection with Dorsey should at the very least land him an interview with the Browns, if Jackson is fired. But he may be Dorsey’s go-to-guy if there is a head coaching opening at the end of the season.
