The Cleveland Browns’ abundance of cornerbacks means pride (and possibly a raise) for some, and serious loss of playing time for others. Right in the middle, it seems, is nickel corner Briean Boddy-Calhoun. What is Cleveland’s front office to do with him?

Last season, the Cleveland Browns ran a set of cornerbacks to the tune of Jason McCourty, Jamar Taylor, and Briean Boddy-Calhoun in the nickel. By June, both McCourty and Taylor had been traded, and yet Boddy-Calhoun had still not moved up to a top cornerback option.

Truth be told, the Browns have a head-spinningly large amount of defensive backs, and Boddy-Calhoun has been lost in the shuffle. A shame, really, considering he was one of the brightest young stars that the Dawg Pound had to offer last year.

Was Boddy-Calhoun perfect? No, absolutely not, but he was never expected to be. The Browns secondary struggled last year, but given his performances, the man that some call “Boddy-Count” could make some serious noise with the right pieces around him.

So, what pieces do the Browns have to help Boddy-Calhoun this season? Of course, No. 4 overall pick Denzel Ward will likely be starting from day one, and E.J. Gaines seems to be the favorite for the second starting spot.

This cornerback room looks to be seriously improved, and if the Browns want to do right by Briean Boddy-Calhoun, he will be the third starter. The fact that he has been lost in the shuffle of defensive backs this offseason is, frankly, criminal given his performances.

The Browns’ defense is shaping up to be greatly improved from 2017 to 2018. Briean Boddy-Calhoun has seen it all, from 1-15, to 0-16, to (hopefully) this successful rebuild going forward.

How the roster shakes out after training camp will be very telling of just what the Browns believe Boddy-Calhoun can do.

Keep an eye on Briean Boddy-Calhoun going forward. If given the chance to shine, he might just become one of the best that the Cleveland Browns have to offer.
