The Cleveland Browns have shown interest in cornerback Sam Beal in the upcoming supplemental draft, with some predicting that the Browns will land the cornerback.

Ever since images from Western Michigan’s cornerback Sam Beal workout for the supplemental draft appeared on Twitter showing Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey intently watching, the Browns have been heavily connected to the cornerback.

The Browns have reconfigured their defensive backs group as a whole this off-season. This has led to the belief that Dorsey will do whatever he can to continue to add young talent to his secondary.

With the supplemental draft only hours away, Eric Galko of Sporting News broke down each of the five prospects in the supplemental draft and predicted who would select them. Galko talked about Beal, saying that he has the ideal traits to be a starting corner, but has concerns over his physicality.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

"A two-year starter at Western Michigan, Beal possess the ideal body type for a perimeter corner in today’s NFL. He measures over 6-0 and showcases an ability to play in man, press and multiple zone coverages. He does not have great bulk; he weighed in at 190 pounds at his Pro Day after dropping from 190 pounds for better testing. He also does not engage with great physicality in coverage, and he needs to continue to build his upper-half strength. Beal, though, is a smooth athlete who turns and runs naturally, and he has the tools to be a long-term starter."

Galko predicted that the Browns would select Beal with a third-round pick, which would make a lot of sense for Cleveland. The Browns have two third-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft after they received New England’s third-rounder in the Danny Shelton trade. Having multiple picks in the round gives the Browns the flexibility to use one in the supplemental draft.

There is always concern about drafting a player in the supplemental draft. For the most part, players only enter the supplemental draft because of off-field issues or academic issues. Although Beal was having academic issues, it will not be a major concern for NFL teams.

Beal was ruled academically ineligible because he was behind in credit hours. Even if he had tried to catch up on credits over the summer, his status for next season would have still been in question, so he decided to enter the supplemental draft.

If the Browns do decide to select Beal in the supplemental draft, they could have a strong pair of young cornerback starters in the future in Beal and fourth overall pick Denzel Ward. But with a deep group of cornerbacks, the Browns may not ask much of Beal until the 2019 season.

Dorsey has shown that he will add talent to the roster any chance that he can. He will have a chance on Wednesday to continue to build a secondary that he has worked on fixing this off-season.
