Cleveland Browns: Top 10 moves to right the ship over the past three years

8. Selecting Garrett over Trubisky
There was a lot of debate about what the Browns should do with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. They had two selections early on, but the focus was solely on what they would do with that first.
It seemed that no one could argue against Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett being the best overall prospect. He was a game changer for the Aggies and was primed to take any NFL defensive line to the next level.
At the Scouting Combine he further cemented his status as the best. He dominated every drill and showed that beyond his freakish size and strength, he had great athleticism as well. Still, there were calls to pass on him.
Those calls centered around the Browns lack of a franchise quarterback. Understandably, many wanted this situation resolved, so they were calling for Mitchell Trubisky out of North Carolina to be the guy. Rumors started swirling that Cleveland was considering it, knowing full well they needed a signal caller to compete.
In the end, they went with Garrett and it was the right choice. An argument against that could be that Cleveland went 0-16, but they likely wouldn’t have been any better in 2017 with Trubisky as the talent around him wouldn’t have been there.
Landing Garrett instead allowed them to get the best player in the draft and they now have someone who can be the star of their defense. As fate would have it, they now have a couple options at quarterback and still plenty of room to grow with Garrett as their premier edge rusher.
