Briean Boddy-Calhoun

Briean Boddy-Calhoun has been Cleveland’s nickel cornerback over the last two seasons ad played well. But he is a player to watch during training camp because he may be a casualty to the Browns remodeled cornerback room.

Last season, Boddy-Calhoun made 36 tackles and six defended passes in 13 games last season. The year prior, Boddy-Calhoun showed that he could make plays on the ball, as he intercepted three passes and 11 passes defended.

But he may be without a spot in the 2018 Browns defense with the amount of talent Dorsey brought in during the off-season. Denzel Ward, Gaines, and Carrie all can play well covering the slot, and the three are currently battling for starting jobs.

Ward is going to be one of the outside corners, while Gaines and Carrie battle it out for the second starting job. Whoever loses that competition could easily be kicked inside when the Browns play in their nickel defense.

The uncertainty about Boddy-Calhoun’s role has made the cornerback get some reps at safety. He played some safety near the end of last season when the Browns were battered with injuries. Having versatility will let Boddy-Calhoun get snaps whenever the Browns need him to fill in.

With Dorsey looking to clean out the secondary after having one of the worst passing defenses last season, Boddy-Calhoun is one of the last remaining players from the secondary last season. How the Browns use him during training camp will be interesting to watch.
