Cleveland Browns: Will Myles Garrett make the Pro Bowl in 2018?
By Randy Gurzi
Myles Garrett was picked by NFL Mocks as the most likely member of the Cleveland Browns to make his first Pro Bowl appearance in 2018.
There’s really no doubt that Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is going to be a Pro Bowl player at some point. In fact, it would be hard to envision him finishing his career without being named to the NFL all-star event several times over.
Depending on who you ask, those nods for Garrett could be coming in sooner rather than later. Heading into his second season, Garrett was named by Erik Lambert of NFL Mocks as the most likely member of the Browns to get his first selection to the festivities in 2018.
Lambert touted Garrett’s imposing physical abilities as a reason why but mentions the team has done some work to help him in this endeavor as well.

"“The former #1 overall pick got off to a slow start in 2017. He continued to battle nagging health issues, but as those cleared up it became more and more apparent why the Cleveland Browns made him their top guy. Look no further than the fact that, as a rookie playing on a rather average defense, he still managed to have seven sacks on the year in just 11 games. The guy is an absolute freak of nature and the Browns may have just done something to make his life easier.” — Lambert, NFL Mocks"
What he’s referring to is the addition of several members of the secondary. In 2017, the Browns were horrendous in trying to stop the pass. That allowed quarterbacks the opportunity to get the ball out quickly, thus limiting the time pass rushers like Garrett had to get after the signal caller. This season, that may not be the case.
In free agency, they added T.J. Carrie, E.J. Gaines, and Terrance Mitchell at cornerback. They didn’t stop there as the No. 4 overall selection was used on Ohio State corner Denzel Ward. There was also the move for former Green Bay Packers corner Damarious Randall, who has since been moved to free safety.
The coverage unit in Cleveland looks to be vastly improved and that could have a huge impact on the performance of Garrett. In a reversal of fortunes, quarterbacks may now have to hold the ball a second-or-so longer as receivers look to get open. That could lead to an extra step or two for Garrett in his pursuit.
A player who already looked menacing as a rookie will only get better with that added help. So yes, Lambert may very well be onto something as Garrett was the correct pick when trying to figure out which Cleveland player will make their first career Pro Bowl in 2018.
