Cleveland Browns: Thursday Night will be Baker time
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns will kick off their preseason with a Thursday night game against the New York Giants, and Baker Mayfield is expected to get plenty snaps in this one
As of now, head coach Hue Jackson remains adamant that Tyrod Taylor is the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. That means fans of Baker Mayfield are just going to have to wait until he can take over the team and become the face of the franchise.
As far as the debate on whether or not that’s the right move, that’s for a different day. What we can talk about now though is that fans will be able to get a good look at the No. 1 overall pick during the preseason and that will start Thursday when they travel to East Rutherford to face the New York Giants.
Jackson spoke on the issue and said we will see a lot of Mayfield according to Mary Kay Cabot:

While that’s normal procedure for teams with rookie quarterbacks, it may not have been so simple with the Browns. Despite Taylor being an unquestioned starter, he has limited experience with this team and the offense.
Taylor came over this offseason after three seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He’s learning a new system — as is the whole team thanks to the addition of offensive coordinator Todd Haley — and new teammates.
Taylor likely needs more snaps than most veteran starters, but the Browns don’t expect that to come on Thursday. Instead, Jackson says Taylor will play a series or two before giving way to the young Mayfield.
So get ready Baker-maniacs. He may not be taking over for good, but we are about to get our first glimpse of in-game action with Mayfield in the orange and brown. And we should be getting a long glimpse.
