The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know. Today’s featured story looks at how rookie cornerback Denzel Ward can play with physicality.

We all saw the hit and we all heard the hit. There’s no doubting that there wasn’t a fan of the Cleveland Browns who didn’t also love the hit.

What they probably didn’t like was the yellow laundry that followed.

Obviously, the hit in question was when rookie cornerback Denzel Ward put New York Giants receiver Hunter Sharp on his back with a crushing blow. That was fantastic, but then Ward was flagged for taunting.

There were different takes on it, and really being a preseason game the penalty doesn’t matter. What isn’t debatable though is Ward has no issues playing tough football.

That story and more take center stage in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward has no problem playing physical — Dan Labbe, Cleveland.com

"Before the flag came out on Thursday night for taunting, Denzel Ward laid a hit on Giants wide receiver Hunter Sharp. It’s one of those hits that reminds you of how physical Ward can play, even at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds. After the game, Ward acknowledged that he can surprise people with his ability to hit."

It may have been followed by a taunting penalty cost them 15-yards, but the hit that cornerback Denzel Ward laid on Hunter Sharp created a stir for Cleveland fans. It was a welcome change by many to see that swagger and it also lets people know that Ward is a physical player and isn’t afraid of going toe-to-toe with anyone. Hopefully, the taunts stay in the preseason and just the hits continue into the regular season.

Hue Jackson’s punishment for Callaway makes no sense

Hue Jackson claimed that Antonio Callaway was being punished by playing so many snaps. In typical Hue fashion, he tried to spin something into being a bigger thing than it really was — like he had some in-depth master plan. He didn’t. They just needed to get him up to speed after he missed all of 2017, and it would have been better to say no comment.

Don’t freak out about run game yet

Dan Justik says poor blocking and the fact it was a preseason game had more to do with the bad running game from the Browns last week than anything else. We don’t need to freak out just yet, this ground attack will get things going.

Hue Jackson says there are no Hard Feelings here in Hardland between him and Todd Haley despite Hard Knocks scene — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"Hue Jackson insists there’s no Hard Feelings here in Hardland between him and offensive coordinator Todd Haley despite what it may have looked like on Tuesday’s premiere of HBO’s Hard Knocks. In the episode, cameras caught Haley and running backs coach Freddie Kitchens questioning Jackson’s decision to rest veterans occasionally in camp to keep them healthy for the season."

It wasn’t the best look when Todd Haley and Hue Jackson disagreed on camera, but that was probably just good television. The truth is, we probably don’t see a lot of the disagreements that go on behind the scenes, and surely there are many that get more heated than two men having a different opinion.

Next. Mayfield proved his biggest strength can’t be measured. dark

Things are likely fine between the two men and HBO really just deserves credit for making the show more fun to watch.
