Reason 3: Putting the best 5 on the field

The Browns have been adamant that they want their best five offensive linemen on the field. Starting Robinson at left tackle may make that happen.

When the decision was made to put Bitonio at left tackle, Robinson was in the concussion protocol. All indications were that Robinson was playing well at left tackle before the concussion. Now that he has returned from the injury, it makes sense to give him a shot.

The questions the Browns have to answer are: is Robinson better at left tackle than Corbett is at left guard. After watching the first preseason game, it is quite clear that Robinson is the better choice.

Plus, starting Robinson allowed Bitonio return to his natural position where he is hailed as one of the best guards in the NFL. This is a double addition of strength. The guard position is made better and the tackle position is fortified.

Robinson is a veteran player with game experience at left tackle. He may never fulfill the potential that led him to be drafted No. 2 overall by the then St. Louis Rams. But if he can be an average left tackle, it will give the Browns an opportunity to allow Corbett to develop and keep their best players in their natural positions.

An offensive line with Robinson playing average at left tackle is a better offensive line than one with Corbett playing an average left guard. The Browns would be smart to give a natural left tackle a shot at starting at the position.

Next. Browns players keep saying they want Dez Bryant. dark

Next year the Browns will need find a long term solution. They will need to draft a left tackle.
