Cleveland Browns: 53 man roster prediction midway through the preseason
By Randy Gurzi
Cornerbacks (5): Denzel Ward, T.J. Carrie, Terrance Mitchell, Simeon Thomas, Jeremiah McKinnon
No area changed more than the cornerback position for Cleveland this offseason. As it stands with this prediction, not one cornerback was on the team last season that made it this year. Their top two starters appear to be Denzel Ward and either T.J. Carrie or Terrance Mitchell. Based on their contracts, Carrie likely has the edge, but Mitchell has been playing really well so far in camp and preseason.

Simeon Thomas and Jeremiah McKinnon round out the position — one that lost a significant player when E.J. Gaines suffered a knee injury during a Sunday practice. Gaines had hoped to compete for a starting spot, but again finds himself dealing with durability issues.
Safety (4): Damarious Randall, Derrick Kindred, Jabrill Peppers, Briean Boddy-Calhoun
Damarious Randall gives Cleveland a true free safety, but he could be pushed for time by Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who looks to have moved from corner to safety. Had he stayed at corner full-time, he would have been the only returner at that spot. As it stands, he’s a great option that can play multiple positions.
Derrick Kindred is the starter at safety, even is Jabrill Peppers is a first-round pick. Kindred is a talented player who doesn’t get the respect he deserves.
