Cleveland Browns News: E.J. Gaines avoids a serious injury
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including cornerback E.J. Gaines avoiding a major injury.
The Cleveland Browns have been lucky so far in training camp and not having any player suffer any serious injuries three weeks into camp.
That seemed like it was about to change on Sunday when cornerback E.J. Gaines was carted off the practice field with what many were calling a ‘significant’ right knee injury.
But after being evaluated by the team’s doctors, Gaines’ injury was not as serious as it seemed after he initially crashed to the turf after contesting a pass intended for Jarvis Landry.

Browns’ E.J. Gaines week to week with sprained knee – Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com
"The Browns dodged a bullet with cornerback E.J. Gaines, who went down on Sunday with what appeared to be a serious right knee injury."
Gaines was a part of an overhaul in the Browns’ secondary this off-season, and it is a great sign that he will not be missing a lot of time. Entrenched in a competition for the starting cornerback job opposite of Denzel Ward, Gaines will be able to return to help a talented group of cornerbacks.
Devon Cajuste is the people’s champ
Every year of Hard Knocks, the production crew always tells the story of an unheralded player. Randy Gurzi believes the recent feature of Devon Cajuste has made him the people’s champ.
Bills say Jarvis Landry’s block was ‘dirty,’ should have been penalized – Mike Rodak, ESPN
"Veteran defensive players for the Buffalo Bills spoke out Sunday against a block Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry made against Bills rookie cornerback Taron Johnson that was not penalized in Friday’s preseason game."
This may just be a case of veteran players protecting their young players, but this seems to be an overreaction to what was an aggressive, but clean block. Landry is a physical player for his size, and he made a great block that helped spring Carlos Hyde for a touchdown.
Defensive line versatility will help the Browns’ lack of DT depth
Injuries have showed rthat the Browns do not have the best depth at defensive tackle, but the versatility of other defensive linemen will help cover up that lack of depth.
