The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news that you need to know, including former Browns linebackers’ career likely being over.

The Cleveland Browns organization received some interesting news on Wednesday when it was announced that their linebacker Mychal Kendricks was being charged with insider trading.

Instead of seeing what punishment these charges may bring for Kendricks, the organization decided to release the linebacker hours after the announcement was made.

Entering the season with one of the best linebacker corps in the league, this news was a big hit to the team’s talented defense.

The Browns having good linebacker depth makes Kendricks’ release hurt less, but Kendricks on the field for the Browns in 2018 would have taken the defense to the next level.

In today’s featured article, these charges against Kendricks leads one NFL writer to believe that his NFL career could be over.

Mychal Kendricks’ NFL career could be over – Mike Florio, Pro Football Talk

"On one hand, it’s admirable that Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks fully admitted to engaging in insider trading. On the other hand, he may have had no choice but to accept guilt in lieu of retaining a hired gun to fire shotgun blasts at the clay pigeon of reasonable doubt."

The Browns made a smart decision to release Kendricks and move on from the situation. Some may argue that the Browns have held on to players with off-field problems before, but federal felony charges are not the kind of criminal charges you want hanging over your team for a season.

"The Browns are off to wrap up their preseason on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. This, of course, is the return of the Battle for the Barge, the coveted trophy dreamt up by Carmen Policy, finally brought back this year."

Although the Browns will be playing very few starters, if any at all, against the Lions on Thursday night, there will be some interesting story lines to follow throughout the game. Especially with Baker Mayfield getting his first start, and maybe only start for a while, in a Browns uniform.
