Cleveland Browns: Standouts from Preseason Week 4
By Randy Gurzi
Several members of the Cleveland Browns made a case to be included in the 53-man roster during their Preseason Week 4 game against the Detroit Lions
The Cleveland Browns hit the road for their final preseason game and they came out on fire against the Detroit Lions in a game they ended up winning 35-17. It’s hard to read too much into their win, considering neither team was featuring many starters on either side of the ball.
That doesn’t mean some players couldn’t make the most out of their time on the field. With roster cuts around the corner, many players on the bubble stepped up and have made it tough on Cleveland to decide who will be on their 53-man roster.
Here are some quick thoughts about the game, including some players who really stood out in the final exhibition game.
One honorable mention will go to rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield. Chosen at No. 1 overall, Mayfield has done everything the Browns have asked of him. He’s taken the field ready to prove himself and has also not said a word about the team deciding it’s best for him to sit behind Tyrod Taylor —‚ some felt this could bother Mayfield given his overly-confident personality.
In his final preseason game, Mayfield was 9-of-16 passing for 138 yards. He was accurate with his throws and several of his incompletions came on passes he threw away with nothing there, as well as a couple drops. Overall, he looks the part of a franchise quarterback and Cleveland should be very pleased with his work thus far.
