Cleveland Browns: Studs and duds from the regular season opener
By Dan Justik
The Cleveland Browns mounted a late comeback Sunday after being down 14 points, but were unable to overcome the Steelers in overtime and had to settle with a tie.
The Cleveland Browns did not lose their regular season opener for the first time since 2004. Although it was a tie on Sunday and not a victory, it was progress for the organization.
It seemed like it was just going to be a typical regular season opener for the Browns. One that fans enter with great optimism, only to be let down by halftime and being prepared to deal with another awful season.
But this time, the Browns fought back, and they fought back at the right time. As fans were walking to the exits in the fourth quarter, the Browns defense created a turnover that gave the offense a prime chance to cut the deficit to seven points.
The offense did just that, and Browns fans started to get a feeling that these were not the same old Browns. Then after another defensive stop, the Browns were able to march down the field and tie the game on a phenomenal Josh Gordon touchdown catch.
Overall, the Browns had a bunch of players stand out on Sunday and were making plays all over the field. If not for a few Browns, they would not have even had a chance to force the game into overtime.
There were also some players that struggled throughout Sunday’s game, helping put the Browns in the 14-point hole they were in.
Here are the Browns studs and duds from the Week 1 tie against the Steelers.
