Randall played cornerback in his first three seasons in the NFL with the Packers. But before he was drafted by Green Bay, he had played safety during his college career. His talent at the safety position is what put his name high on draft boards.

Browns analysis: Damarious Randall’s impact, Tyrod Taylor’s leash and Desmond Harrison’s struggles – Nate Ulrich, Akron Beacon Journal

"In his mind, he absolutely belongs at free safety, the position he played at Arizona State before the Green Bay Packers drafted him in the first round (30th overall) in 2015 and used him as a cornerback the past three seasons. It’s hard to argue with Randall after his free-safety debut for the Browns in Sunday’s season-opening 21-21 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers."

The Browns have a lot of weapons in the defense, especially in the front seven. With how well Randall played on Sunday, his presence creates a lot of opportunites for the cornerbacks to make plays. Having Randall at safety could make the Browns defense one of the best in the NFL.
