Josh Gordon Has A Breakout Day

Josh Gordon did not have a very eventful season opener. While Gordon did pull down a touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor to tie the game, that was his only reception on the day. With one catch, for 17 yards, fans might begin to wonder: is the old Josh Gordon gone? Unlikely.

Gordon may have missed almost four whole years of time, but his raw athleticism and talent is still there. Not to mention, Gordon stands a cool 6-foot-4, amazing size considering his speed at times seems otherworldly. Now, size isn’t everything, but Gordon stands about three inches taller than even the lankiest man in New Orleans’ starting secondary. This presents a major conundrum for the Saints’ defense: do you cover Gordon with two men and risk another getting open, or do you cover Gordon with just one man, and allow him to grab 50/50 balls with ease?

Either way, New Orleans is in trouble with Josh Gordon. Despite how long he’s been out of action, Gordon showed flashes of his old self during the Browns’ campaign last year. Specifically, his comeback game against the Los Angeles Chargers last season netted him 85 yards on the day. This turned into one of the best games for a receiver against the Chargers all year, and Gordon hadn’t played for three years prior.

Josh Gordon is oh, so talented, and can be one of the best receivers in the league when he is on the football field. As long as Tyrod Taylor chooses to target him, Gordon is going to be a game-changer for the Browns this week. It feels good to have a truly game-breaking receiver once again.
