With a record of 0-1-1 and some questionable plays in those games, could Tyrod Taylor already be running out of chances with the Cleveland Browns?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. For almost 20 years, the Cleveland Browns have been insane: they draft a quarterback and play them way too soon and the player busts.

This year the team traded for a reliable quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, and drafted one of the most talked about college quarterbacks in years, Baker Mayfield.

The intent was to finally have the chance to develop their draft pick quarterback while playing Taylor, who’s already the best quarterback the team has had in years.

However, after a disappointing performance against Pittsburgh, and a ‘too late’ performance against New Orleans, a team that should be 2-0, is instead 0-1-1, and is about to face the quarterback many thought they would draft, Sam Darnold, on Thursday.

Statistically, Tyrod Taylor didn’t play poorly against the Saints. He was 22-of-30 (73 percent) for 246 yards 1 TD and an interception. Most of that, however, came in the second half. The first half was more the same as the Pittsburgh game.

The Browns defense has been carrying the team so far. They rank third in sacks (10), seventh in passes deflected (12), and fifth in forced fumbles (3). They feature soon-to-be stars such as Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, Larry Ogunjobi, Damarious Randall, Christian Kirksey, and Pro Bowler Joe Schobert.

This team can’t keep playing elite defense if the offense can’t produce. They’ll be stuck in football purgatory… AGAIN.

The last two games, kicker Zane Gonzalez and Tyrod Taylor were the scapegoats for the team not winning. Missed kicks and missed opportunities on offense did have large results for why the team has yet to win.

Gonzalez was waived and the team signed a new kicker, Greg Joseph, and it makes Browns fans wonder how much longer until the quarterback position has a new face.

Baker Mayfield was the highly touted, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. In the preseason, he lit the field up with his accuracy and pocket movement and had the Dawg Pound salivating. After two games of average to below average quarterback play, these Dawgs are hungry and they’re barking.

How many more chances will Tyrod Taylor get? How much longer will the team play great defense and still lose because of offensive output? How much longer until Cleveland is echoed with chants of “We want Baker!”?

We all knew this team was a year away, but this team looks ready to at least compete now. The AFC North looks weaker, the team’s schedule doesn’t appear as strong as people thought and there is more talent on the 2018 Browns than in decades.

If a team loses because a wide receiver misses a catch or a kicker misses a kick, that’s one thing. That’s forgivable. When the quarterback, the most could position in football, has too much to do with a team’s struggles, that’s a problem.

Tyrod Taylor was already on a ticking clock as the Browns starter. However, after the last two games, time seems to be moving a bit faster. He may get a few more chances, but time is almost up!
