With the Cleveland Browns ready to turn things over to Baker Mayfield at quarterback, could they look to trade Tyrod Taylor to another franchise?

On Monday, the Cleveland Browns are expected to name Baker Mayfield the starting quarterback for the rest of this season — and beyond. That’s not shocking considering how well he played on Thursday Night when he led them to their first win since Dec. 24 of 2016.

That means Tyrod Taylor will be relegated to the bench, and that he will hit free agency in 2019 looking for a new home. Unless the Browns decide to send him to a team now that he could make a case to be the starter.

There’s not a ton of teams in desperate need for quarterbacks, but one may have opened up Sunday in the San Francisco 49ers.

When Jimmy Garoppolo went down with a non-contact knee injury, the hopes of their season went up in smokes. That is unless they suddenly make a move for someone like Taylor.

Taylor fits what head coach Kyle Shanahan has done in the past and he’s had success with mobile quarterbacks like Robert Griffin III while in Washington. No, Taylor is not the same level player as Garoppolo, but he could give them hope while their franchise player is out.

Other options could include Arizona, where the Cardinals just benched Sam Bradford for Josh Rosen and Tennessee where the Titans have had injury concerns for Marcus Mariota and now Blaine Gabbert.

Two outside the box teams to consider could be the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars. Dak Prescott has regressed in a bad way for Dallas and they fell to 1-2 with him under center in 2018. In an effort to save their jobs, could the coaching staff look for new blood at the position?

As for the Jags, Blake Bortles had his typical dud game that followed a great outing. It could be time to light a fire under him with some real competition.

Of course, the Browns could elect to hang on to Taylor in case Baker Mayfield does get hurt. But knowing he could leave in free agency, would it be wise to get something now while also giving him a shot to play elsewhere?
