Cleveland Browns: Emmanuel Ogbah return is scary for opponents
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns defense has been solid through three weeks but could be even better with the return of defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah
This Sunday, Emmanuel Ogbah makes his return to the field for the Cleveland Browns and it could be a case of the rich getting richer. Ogbah was injured in the Week 1 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers and since he’s been out, the team has become one of the most impressive units in the NFL.
Currently, they rank No. 11 overall in points surrendered (19.7) and they’re tied in seventh place for sacks with nine. They’re also boasting an impressive plus-nine in the turnover battle this season. (Stats courtesy of NFL.com)
All this has taken place with Ogbah dealing with an ankle injury. This week though, he said he will be back in action making this already impressive defense that much more potent.
The Browns have been high on Ogbah for a while, as the No. 32 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has shown flashes of being a really good defensive end. As a rookie, he recorded 5.5 sacks and added another four in 2017 before an injury cost him the final six games of the season.
Once healthy following last season’s injury, he was expected to anchor the defensive line opposite Myles Garrett. Ogbah was also the reason the team felt comfortable skipping on Bradley Chubb and adding Denzel Ward to the secondary.
Ward has been a huge part of the team’s success on turnovers and could get more chances should Ogbah bring more pressure — thus forcing the ball out faster.
With Ogbah out, Larry Ogunjobi has stepped up and recorded three sacks along with the four from Garrett. Suddenly, this defensive line looks like they will be scary for any opponent to deal with.
