Since drafting him in the second round, the Cleveland Browns have seldom used former Georgia running back Nick Chubb. However, his performance through four games shows that Chubb might just be the best back on Cleveland’s roster, and deserves more carries.

During their Week Four bout with the Oakland Raiders, the Cleveland Browns scored 42 points, their most since a 2007 game against the Cincinatti Bengals, where they netted 51.

To be fair, the Browns’ new and much improved defense didn’t have their best day against Derek Carr’s squad, as Cleveland fell, 45-42. However, the offense was clicking on all cylinders, and Cleveland’s core of hungry youngsters showed some serious offensive firepower.

Rather than rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield absolutely balling out like he did in week three, the Browns had themselves another breakout star on offense this week.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Rookie running back Nick Chubb saw only three carries on the day. The result? 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chubb ran like a man possessed on Sunday, and his efforts should not go unnoticed, even in an overtime loss.

Now, I have personally been a chief member of the “Nick Chubb Fan Clubb” for quite some time. Not to be a cheerleader, but Chubb’s time in college with the Georgia Bulldogs made this easy to see coming. Chubb was one of college football’s best backs, and the injury concerns were perhaps the only thing that kept him out of the first round of the NFL Draft.

Chubb’s performance against the Raiders highlighted just how much of a weapon he can be for the Cleveland Browns. Even with an “okay at best” offensive line in front of him, Chubb’s aggressiveness when hitting the hole is something to be admired.

He already does the power back job better than Carlos Hyde. Chubb has more acceleration, and a second gear that Hyde simply does not possess.

You can argue over Hyde and Duke Johnson for the second spot, but through just four weeks, it is abundantly clear that Chubb is the best running back on the Cleveland Browns.

Maybe rookie quarterbacks don’t play, but rookie running backs certainly do, and Chubb certainly should. He has earned, at the very least, more carries. Going forward, he should be the Browns’ starting running back, and with 146 yards on just 10 carries this season, there is really no argument.
