Cleveland Browns: Strange week blows up Pick’em week
By Joel W. Cade
The Cleveland Browns were picked by many to win. But the NFL’s CSI crew reversed a call and they lost. The Pick’em league endured some strange things as well.
The Cleveland Browns found a new way to lose. But is that new or surprising? The best news from Sunday’s game was that Baker Mayfield was telling the truth. If anyone is going to turn the franchise around, it will be him.
But on to the business at hand – the Pick’em league. This is my weekly trash talk segment that fans have come to love and enjoy.
Standings
There was little movement in the overall standings. Despite only picking eight correct games for the week, Kathryn Cade remains at the top of the leaderboard. She is joined there by Michael Markoch who picked twelve games successfully. They are joined by DPD writer Mitch Zoloty who didn’t have as bad a week as he was complaining about in our writers’ group chat.

In second place is Randy Gruzi, Richard John and Tyler Hise. All three players have picked 34 games so far this season putting them one behind the leaders.
There is a trend here. The leaderboard is dominated by relatives of DPD writers. The top nine players are either DPD writers or their family. Come on people! Need to make this a competition!
The weekly competition was fascinating. Michael Markoch propelled himself to the top of the board by correctly picking twelve games this week! Great job! Anthony Holben and Gary Kubicki came in a close second with eleven correct picks.
Studs and Duds
The first dud of the week goes to the entire league. Everybody picked the Cleveland Browns to win. Who can blame us? We are Browns fans! Nonetheless, we were all wrong. Special mention goes to Richard John and Mark Kirin who picked the Minnesota Vikings over the Los Angeles Rams. Raeshawn Jack takes the cake for being the only person to pick the New York Giants over the New Orleans Saints.
Studs of the week goes to Richard John, Mitch Zoloty and Jared Hornfec who correctly picked the Tennessee Titans over the Philadelphia Eagles. Great pick! The entire league picked the Los Angeles Chargers to win. Great job!
The newcomer of the week goes to Jared Hornfec who correctly picked ten games in his first week with the league. But there are several players who did not make picks at all. Make your picks lest you get too far behind! We want to keep this league active!
It’s a family thing
The Cade house is heating up. Kathryn remains in the lead by three games. Yours truly has fallen into a tie with Nate Cade. Nate has climbed the boards the past two weeks while I have fallen. Competition in the Markoch family is heating up. Michael’s big week puts him over his father Chris by three games. Should be fun at that house next Sunday. Randy Gruzi is tied with his father Richard John in second place. Let the trash talking thrive.
