Cleveland Browns: Rishard Matthews to visit
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns roster is much improved, but they’re not done looking for more talent as wide receiver Rishard Matthews is set to work out on Monday
It looks like the Cleveland Browns could still add some help at the wide receiver position.
After already adding Jarvis Landry this offseason and seeing Rashard Higgins step up his game, the Browns are looking at other options.
And no, it doesn’t appear to be Dez Bryant who they are considering.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Browns will be bringing in former Tennessee Titans receiver Rishard Matthews for a visit on Monday.
Matthews requested his release from the Titans after three games this season as he felt his role was dimished too greatly. So far in 2018, he had just three receptions for 11 yards.
He believed he could make a stronger impact somewhere else and interest in him reportedly was high. Matthews has put up some solid seasons for Tennessee. His best was in 2016 when he had 945 yards and nine touchdowns.
For the Browns, he could add another solid possession receiver with plenty of NFL experience.
The position in general has been a hot topic for the Browns this season. They traded for Landry and then gave him a huge extension. Unsatisfied, they also added Antonio Callaway and Damion Ratley in the draft.
Cleveland also considered former Dallas Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant. He famously came for a visit during ‘Hard Knocks’ and was supposedly offered a deal by Cleveland. It wasn’t enough to make him sign the dotted line. There was also the trade of Josh Gordon after the team finally decided they were done trying with the talented, but troubled, receiver.
Matthews also has a visit with the Cardinals lined up, but that could be cancelled if the Browns blow him away.
