Cleveland Browns: Carlos Hyde trade keeps Hue Jackson honest
For weeks, Hue Jackson has been saying one thing about the running back situation, and constantly doing another. By trading bell cow running back Carlos Hyde, John Dorsey is just trying to stop Hue Jackson’s hypocrisy.
Hue Jackson is a man of his word. Or at least, that’s what he would tell you. Throughout his two and a half season tenure with the Cleveland Browns, Jackson has been, to put it lightly, of two minds on a few things.
From his opinions on Carson Wentz, to constantly playing the blame game, Jackson hasn’t been kept honest since he got to Cleveland. It looks like John Dorsey is finally putting his foot down.
By trading away starting running back Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dorsey has set an ultimatum for the Browns’ coaching staff. That is to say, the Browns are going to play who Dorsey wants them to play, or he isn’t going to give them a choice.

Ever since rookie running back Nick Chubb ripped off two big runs against the Oakland Raiders, Jackson has constantly lobbied for him to get more carries. It’s been three weeks, and Chubb has seen very little, if any, increase in his amount of carries.
This would be fine if it were only a week ago, or if Jackson wasn’t in charge of offensive personnel. It would be fine if it had only been one game ago, and the Browns didn’t really have a chance to fully bring Chubb into the fold.
But it’s been a month, and it seems like Browns management wants Hue to finally put up or shut up.
It’s about time someone in Berea kept Jackson honest, and we’ll see if he’s a man of his word this week. It’s Nick Chubb time in Cleveland, and he deserves it.
He won’t be the only one reaping the benefits of Carlos Hyde’s absence, though. Duke Johnson, fan favorite of the Browns, has been dealing with Jackson’s hypocritical ways for over two years now.
By trading away Hyde, Cleveland is relying on youth and explosive talent in their running back room. That makes all the sense in the world, considering the running back position is built on explosive plays and youth.
Hopefully, after all this time pondering just how to get both Chubb and Duke more carries, Hue Jackson finally has a way to get them into the gameplan.
