On Sunday evening, news spread like wildfire around the NFL’s beat reporters that Hue Jackson’s days were numbered. Now, it seems the Cleveland Browns are on high alert, and a new head coach could be on the way sooner rather than later.

Hue Jackson has been the Cleveland Browns‘ head coach for nearly two and a half seasons now and has three wins, and a tie, to show for it. Not only is this historically terrible, but it seems the Browns have had enough, and their general manager and owner are finally putting their foot down.

Jackson has weaseled his way out of many a sticky situation during his tenure in Cleveland and has kept the ownership firmly in his favor. Not only did he coach the team to 0-16 last year and survive, but he got an offensive coordinator he believed he could trust and a defensive coordinator to go with it. Everything was working in Jackson’s favor, but the time comes for every coach eventually.

On Sunday night, various beat reporters such as Benjamin Allbright and Daryl Ruiter began “hearing rumblings” that Hue Jackson could be on his last legs as the Browns head coach. The situation became a lot more interesting with this tweet from Ruiter, who has been around the team constantly in past seasons.

If Ruiter truly did sniff out a rat in Berea, he may have one of the stories of his career with this one. It seems as though the Browns’ players have finally quit on Hue and stopped drinking his pep talk Koolaid, so general manager John Dorsey finally has a smoking gun. He and owner Jimmy Haslam have caught Hue Jackson red-handed, and it might be time to take the three-year head coach out to pasture.

Unless the Browns decide to give him one more week and the players seriously give it their all, this one could be over. Hue Jackson’s days are numbered, and it seems he will be replaced in the orange and brown in due time. If that is the case, then it’s time to close the book on yet another era of Cleveland Browns head coaches.

Thanks for the memories, Hue Jackson. Even though they weren’t so great.
