Stud: Nick Chubb

The Cleveland Browns made the shocking decision to trade starting running back Carlos Hyde in the lead up to Sunday’s game, mainly because they wanted to give Nick Chubb more touches. After a rocky start to the game, Chubb proved the Browns decision to trade Hyde was the right one.

Chubb was having the same problems that Hyde was having this season: the offensive line being blown off the ball, and they had to make a defender miss in the backfield just to get back to the line of scrimmage.

But Chubb was able to show his burst, as he was able to find some more wiggle room than Hyde did this season and created chunk plays. On the day, Chubb rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, with his longest rush going for 21 yards.

One of the best aspects of Chubb’s performance was how patient he was a runner. Instead of running the ball to the gap that the play was designed to go to and into the back of his offensive linemen, Chubb was patient when he got the ball. Once he found a running lane, Chubb hit the holes hard and was able to gain a decent amount of yardage every time.

With more consistent carries, Chubb’s game is going to get even better. He showed on Sunday that he can be effective NFL running back, and the Browns should be able to get their run game going the rest of the season.
