With a need at wide receiver, could the Cleveland Browns make a move for Demaryius Thomas of the Denver Broncos, who is rumored to be on the trade market

This season, the Cleveland Browns have been unafraid to make big moves. They’ve been involved in several trades already as they added players like wide receiver Jarvis Landry and free safety Damarious Randall.

They’ve also moved players like quarterbacks DeShone Kizer, Cody Kessler, and most recently, running back Carlos Hyde. General manager John Dorsey is proving he has no issues pulling the trigger, and may not be done yet.

With the 2018 NFL Trade Deadline quickly approaching, the Browns could be looking to make another move, with wide receiver being the most likely spot they address. We already saw one huge domino fall as the Dallas Cowboys added Amari Cooper, but another big name in Demaryius Thomas is still reportedly on the market.

The Denver Broncos are said to be fielding offers, and despite Thomas’ desire to stay in Denver, several teams are interested in picking him up according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

One team who should at least kick the tires is the Browns. Currently, Landry is their top target, but he’s not playing to the best of his potential since defenses can zero in on him. Adding a legitimate threat outside like Thomas would help open thing up for him.

It would also give rookie Baker Mayfield a more consistent weapon to get the ball to. While Thomas isn’t the playmaker he was early in his career, he still keeps defenses honest.

He had five-straight seasons with at least 1,000-yards receiving before hauling in 83 passes for 949 yards and five touchdowns in 2017. In 2018, he’s recorded 33 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns.

Thomas isn’t a burner, but he can make the contested catches and is still hard for corners to take down when he gets a full head of steam. He can also find more success with a quarterback like Mayfield as he’s worked with Trevor Siemian and Case Keenum the past couple seasons.

As is always the case with trades, the price is the key thing to consider here. If Cleveland can get him for a third-round pick or later, this could be a solid move to consider.
