Cleveland Browns: Allen Hurns a deadline option?
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns have made many moves this year and may not be done. They need wide receiver help, so could Allen Hurns be on the radar?
No team has been more active in changing their roster since the 2017 season ended than the Cleveland Browns. They changed out their entire quarterback room, the majority of their secondary, and made many other tweaks all over the roster.
So far, its resulted in them being a much better franchise than they were last season. After going 0-16 in 2017, the Browns are heading into Week 8 of the 2018 season with a record of 2-4-1.
They’ve also played in four overtime games, highlighting how competitive they’ve been. Even with the improvements, there’s still room for growth, with wide receiver being the position that sticks out.

With Ricardo Louis, Rashard Higgins, and Derrick Willies all sufferings injuries, Cleveland could look to add some veteran help on the outside.
One intriguing option could be Allen Hurns of the Dallas Cowboys. Hurns was supposed to be the top target in Big D after they cut Dez Bryant in the offseason, but it hasn’t worked out.
In seven games, Hurns has just 13 receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown. What’s hurt his numbers is the committee Dallas is using where they’re not keeping players on the field long enough to get into a rhythm. They finally did let Hurns get enough snaps this past Sunday and he recorded five receptions for 74 yards.
It’s likely that this will be the last game where Hurns makes a big impact. Dallas went out after their loss in Week 7 and traded for Amari Cooper of the Oakland Raiders.
That move likely pushes Hurns even further down on the committee. This could be a good thing for the Browns, who may be able to convince Dallas to send Hurns their way. While his numbers aren’t exciting, Hurns is a solid possession receiver and could help take pressure off Jarvis Landry.
Chances are it would take a mid-round pick to get Hurns and it would be worth it. The Browns offense has been inconsistent and landing a smart route runner could help them clean that up some.
It’s definitely a move worth looking into and would help all parties involved, especially Hurns, who hasn’t been thrilled with his lack of targets.
