Cleveland Browns: Last call for Odell Beckham, Jr.
By Mitch Zoloty
The Cleveland Browns need receiver help and the Giants seem to be in full tank mode. Despite being perfect trading partners, no deal has happened yet. It’s time for that deal to happen.
Tuesday, October 30th. 4PM EST.
By this time every NFL trade has to be submitted and are usually in the hands of the media by then. Last year the Cleveland Browns made some noise at the trade deadline for all the wrong reasons.
The Browns almost traded a second and a third round pick to the Bengals for AJ McCarron. The Browns were lucky that they somehow forgot to submit the trade.

The Browns currently stand at 2-4-1, 1.5 games back in the division from the Pittsburgh Steelers. A win Sunday would put the Browns within half a game back from the Steelers and 1.5 games back from the Bengals and Ravens — if the two teams win their games this week.
The Browns are not entirely out of the playoff picture. A trade or two before the deadline could really help push them into the playoffs. The trade candidate that would help the Browns the most would be acquiring New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
OBJ’s contract has him under tenure until 2024, when he will become an unrestricted free agent. Even though the Giants are tanking, it would most likely cost close to a kings ransom to get OBJ off the Giants.
The Browns should give the Giants pretty much whatever they ask for in return for Odell, as he fills the biggest need on this Browns roster and already has chemistry with Jarvis Landry and Baker Mayfield. Jarvis being one of his closest friends, and Baker being an off-season workout buddy of Odell’s, the trio would all make each other even better than they currently are.
OBJ would provide the Browns ownership with one of the most popular players in the NFL which could lead to a huge increase of profits from selling OBJ memorabilia. Odell would come to the Browns and fill the teams biggest need, which would lead to more success on the field.
The only downside to acquiring OBJ would be the assets which were lost getting him, which would more than likely include a first round pick and a few other draft picks. A realistic trade for Odell would probably include a first round draft pick and a fourth round pick at least.
The Giants will demand at least a first round pick after seeing what the Raiders got for Amari Cooper. New York won’t be losing anything if they keep Beckham on the roster due to the length of his contract. A first and a fourth might be enough to persuade the team to giving up arguably their best asset.
The Giants could use the picks to help build around whichever young quarterback they decide to choose in the near future, as the draft picks will be much cheaper than paying Beckham too. This cap space could be used to sign some veteran players to aid the future quarterback also.
The Browns don’t have long to make this trade happen, so John Dorsey needs to get on the phone soon or else the team could lose out. I think many Browns fans would agree that they are tired of the franchise putting too much faith in draft picks.
The Browns need a genuine superstar, and if the Giants are willing to trade their’s away, Dorsey needs to get on that before October 30th at 4PM EST.
