Cleveland Browns fire offensive coordinator Todd Haley
Mere moments following the fire of head coach Hue Jackson, the Browns have made yet another move in the coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Todd Haley will now be packing his bags and taking the first train out of Cleveland.
First Hue Jackson, now Todd Haley. John Dorsey and the Cleveland Browns are cleaning house this afternoon, leaving defensive coordinator Gregg Williams as the last man standing of the Browns’ coaching triumvirate set at the beginning of 2018.
First reported by notable NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Browns will definitely be in more than one coaching market this offseason.
Todd Haley was considered a great hire by the Browns, coming from the rival Pittsburgh Steelers to be the mentor for rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.
But as the losing piled up, and the Browns struggled to score points week in and week out, it became evident that the Browns and Haley were not, after all, a match made in heaven.
Originally, it seemed there was a massive power struggle between Hue Jackson and Todd Haley for control of the offensive unit. Oftentimes, the problem lay in the way that the two coaches talked about each other.
Of course, they started off in a jovial manner this season. But as the year went on, and losing continued, the two seemed to have underlying contempt.
Now, the Browns don’t have to worry about either of them being the problem, considering both Jackson and Haley are now officially out of Berea. Hours out from the firing of Jackson by the Browns, the question remains: who will be the coaching staff in Cleveland by the time the day is through?
