With Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey officially clearing house on Monday, the Browns will have the pick of the litter on the 2019 head coaching candidates. One name they should have a long, hard look at is Iowa State’s Matt Campbell.

It’s officially coach hunting season in Cleveland. For the 10th time in 20 years, the Cleveland Browns will be looking for a new leader at head coach. After canning both Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley, the slate is blank for a nice, young team with a promising quarterback. For once, the Cleveland Browns look like a very appetizing coaching gig.

Though many would love to see Baker Mayfield and Lincoln Riley team up like an Oklahoma Batman and Robin, there is another call the Browns should make. Matt Campbell from Iowa State University is ready to be an NFL head coach, and he should be on the short list for the Cleveland Browns.

Campbell runs great schemes for the Cyclones, but that’s not where the heart of his expertise lies. The main points of emphasis for Campbell are leadership and game-planning. Since becoming the head coach at Iowa State, Campbell has injected a culture of winning, discipline, and gamesmanship. Incidentally enough, this sounds like the exact opposite of Hue Jackson.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Unlike Hue “Blame Game” Jackson, Campbell preaches accountability and leadership at all levels. Regardless of what schemes he does or doesn’t run, this mentality is what the Browns need.

The constant blame from Jackson destroyed the Browns as a team, and they need someone to build it back up again now that he’s gone.

With Gregg Williams named as the interim head coach of the Browns, ownership will definitely be listening on head coaches for the 2019 season. Campbell has the physical and mental sides of the game down pat, and should certainly impress in interviews. It’s time for the Dawg Pound to start the campaign for Matt Campbell now.

With the accountability and bravado that he brings to this team, they certainly will not regret it.
