The Cleveland Browns fired Hue Jackson on Monday and will need to replace him in 2019. Here are five early candidates for the job vacancy.

We all know by now that the Cleveland Browns are in need of a head coach in 2019. Well, we all already knew they were going to need a new coach, but for some reason, the team kept clinging to Hue Jackson despite suffering through loss after ugly loss.

That was until his 3-36-1 record became too much to defend, even for owner Jimmy Haslam who for some reason wanted to blame everyone except Hue for the team’s shortcomings the past two and a half seasons.

Also, in typical Hue-fashion, he didn’t go out alone. Jackson did enough finger pointing leading up to his demise to convince Haslam, and general manager John Dorsey, that offensive coordinator Todd Haley had to go as well. Over the past couple of weeks, Jackson has been singling out the offense as the reason for the team’s woes. Somehow, the front office bought this, even though the offense improved in just about every area since Haley took that over from Jackson.

Perhaps Haley was just outdone by the fact he was in a power struggle with Jackson. Whatever happened, he went from looking like the potential interim to an unemployed coach who watched as Gregg Williams was appointed the interim position.

In the end, it may be for the best. It will give them an opportunity to look for an entirely new coaching staff to take this great 2018 draft class to the next level. With all that being said, here are five top candidates — in the very early stages of the process — for the Browns to consider hiring.
