Cleveland Browns Trade Rumors: Golden Tate for a mid-round pick? Yes, please
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns need receivers and Golden Tate is rumored to be available. John Dorsey should look into this one, especially if the asking price is a mid-round pick.
The day prior to the NFL Trade Deadline, the Cleveland Browns made two of the biggest moves of their eventful season. They fired head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Owner Jimmy Haslam cited the internal fighting and said they aren’t giving up on the year, but instead they want to see what can be salvaged.
If that’s truly the case, the Browns should be looking for wide receiver help ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. And there just happens to be one of the most sure-handed receivers in the league on the market.

Golden Tate is rumored to be available via trade and the Detroit Lions asking price is estimated to be a mid-round pick according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.
If this asking price is accurate, there’s no reason not to make the deal. Tate is exactly what the Browns offense needs as they have no receivers outside of Jarvis Landry that opposing defenses have to worry about.
The reason for the low price on Tate’s services is two-fold. One is his age — Tate is 30 years old, which is when many players start to show a decline. The second is he’s a free agent at the end of the season, which means he could wind up being a rental.
Neither should deter the Browns. Their young roster could benefit from one veteran, especially in the receiver corps. As for his contract, if the Browns can’t convince Tate to stay on and he leaves in free agency, they will get the compensatory pick when he does sign elsewhere — and that could end up being a similar, or better, pick than what was forfeited for his services.
In his first four seasons with the Lions, Tate has topped 90 receptions each season and 1,000-yards in three of those years. After seven games, he’s on pace to do the same as he has 44 receptions for 517 yards.
This one seems too easy. If the Lions want a fourth0round pick, let’s make the deal.
