Round 6: J.R. Reed, S, Georgia

For some reason, Georgia safeties never seem to go as high as their play on the field suggests. Because of that, J.R. Reed is still waiting in the sixth round and Cleveland happily snatches him up. Reed has 116 tackles and three sacks in the past two seasons for the Bulldogs. Cleveland is pretty strong at safety, so this pick is just about adding some depth there to get a little better.

Round 7 (via Jacksonville Jaguars): James Gardner, WR, Miami (OH)

In search of another late-round gem, the Browns look at Miami of Ohio receiver James Gardner. He has exceptional size at 6-foot-4 and 217-pounds. He’s also made a lot of big plays for the RedHawks.

In 2017, he had 47 receptions for 927 yards and 11 touchdowns. He hasn’t been able to match that production this season due to injury. Gardner has played in just three games this season, which could lead to him being available very late in the draft.

This is the selection the Browns got in exchange for Cody Kessler and if Gardner can get healthy and back to what he showed in the middle of his career, he could have a shot at cracking the roster.
