Cleveland Browns: Hue Jackson throws Baker Mayfield under bus
Not even a week after being fired, Hue Jackson has already thrown countless members of the Cleveland Browns organization under the bus. The last target on his Blame Bus hit list is Baker Mayfield, as the former Browns coach attacked his rookie quarterback on ESPN’s First Take.
Former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson is many things. It seems that “a man of his word” is not one of those things, despite what Jackson might tell you himself. Countless times in just the past week, Jackson has taken matters into his own hands on countless subjects.
From his role in hiring former offensive coordinator Todd Haley, to picking and choosing what quarterbacks he did and did not like, Jackson has bent the truth to point of breaking many times since being let go on Monday. Many have been caught in the crosshairs of Hue’s excuses this past week, but many thought that at least Baker Mayfield would be sacred. Apparently, that was not to be.
Jackson cocked his verbal rifle and shot Mayfield down on Friday morning, when he appeared on ESPN’s midday show, First Take. The hubris, or rather Hue-bris, of this man seems to know no bounds. Despite going 3-36-1 in his tenure with the Browns, Jackson blamed Mayfield’s performance this season as a part of why he got fired.
This is…positively insane, considering the argument can be made that Mayfield saved Jackson’s job on more than one occasion this year. Following Mayfield’s debut against the New York Jets, and an overtime loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jackson may have lost his job if not for Baker’s performances.

Now, Mayfield has seen some ups and downs this year, but he cannot be blamed for the 31 losses on Jackson’s record from 2016 to 2017. Throwing Mayfield, a rookie quarterback showing some serious promise, under the bus like this is simply immoral. And yet, Jackson continues to drive his bus of blame, right off a cliff.
This is not funny, this is not professional, and this is not okay. This is pathetic, really. Hue Jackson is a pathological liar, and he isn’t even a good one. Coaches are supposed to take blame, not dole it out at every possible turn.
First it was Sashi Brown, the John Dorsey, then Todd Haley, and now Baker Mayfield, with no end in sight. No wonder reports have come out that Mayfield isn’t going to miss Hue. So long, thanks for all the fish, and good riddance.
