Cleveland Browns: Gregg Williams is the right man for right now
By Joel W. Cade
Come get some!
Gregg Williams exudes swagger. This is a man who had 11 job letters and four of them were ‘show up and sign the contract’. He is extremely confident in himself and his ability to do his job.
As a coach this swagger rubs off on others. To quote Jarvis Landry, his swagger is “contaaaagious”. Being contagious with confidence and swagger is not so bad a thing for this group.
The Browns offense looks lost. They look like they are caught in the middle of a power struggle between he Hue must not be named and Haley. They looked timid and unsure of themselves at times.
Gregg Williams will put an end to this. The firings of former head coach Hue “motorcoach jockey” Jackson and Todd “Toad” Haley, the offense is not in the hands of Freddie Kitchens. Kitchens has control over the offense. There will be no power struggle for the offense.
Williams will begin to teach the offense to play with confidence and swagger. These are two elements this offense has missed. The players are there to make plays. They could still use a little help. But there are pieces in place. What keeps this offense from succeeding is confidence.
Williams will expect the offense to play with the same swagger he expects from his defense. This may be a perfect fit, for now, with quarterback Baker Mayfield. Mayfield brings is own swagger to the offense. But with Williams instilling his “come get some” attitude into the offense, this may be a match made in heaven, for now.
