Cleveland Browns News: Are the changes too late?
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the news you need to know, including one Cleveland Browns reporter asking why the changes weren’t made earlier
There were some interesting headlines coming out about the Cleveland Browns on Monday. One of the most intriguing was the prospect that Bruce Arians could be interested in joining the Browns next season as their head coach.
That need for a coach is brought up in another story. This one is the question asked by Terry Pluto of Cleveland.com, who wonders why the changes on offense had to be made by a newcomer in Freddie Kitchens rather than an experienced coach like Hue Jackson or Todd Haley.
Of course, asking that question explains why neither has a job any longer with the Browns. The real question is why the staff was there to begin the season if they were so stuck in their ways.

"Several hours after the game and thinking about how the Browns offense played, I became a little angry. I watched the changes Freddie Kitchens made in a week and wondered why this didn’t happen sooner. Kitchens was the Browns running backs coach. The only time he had called plays in the pros was the fourth exhibition game of this season."
Terry Pluto is asking why a new coordinator like Freddie Kitchens could make these moves, but Hue Jackson and Todd Haley couldn’t. The answer is simple. It’s also why Hue and Haley are out of jobs.
Baker Mayfield’s handling of coaching change shows he’s the guy
The way Baker Mayfield handled all the chaos from a week ago is the greatest testament to his ability as a team leader. He didn’t point fingers, he didn’t panic, he just went out and led. He is the future of this team and because of that, it’s an exciting time to be a Browns fan.
"“It was good to see our team respond,” Williams said. “We wanted to see our team respond and wanted to see Baker (Mayfield) respond, and he did a really good job with that and how he led us in those situations. He did a good job.”"
Gregg Williams knows his team was outmatched and he’s not mad about the loss in his debut. Instead, he seems happy that the team fought against a better team after a busy week. That’s something to build on.
Freddie Kitchens knows Duke Johnson is alive
Despite suffering a loss, Dan Justik is encouraged by the Browns offensive game plan against Kansas City. The main reason is that Freddie Kitchens actually treated Duke Johnson like the playmaker he is.
