Following a four-game losing skid, the Browns needed to recollect themselves at home. With the Atlanta Falcons coming to town, it was never going to be an easy task. But, Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb led the offense home for the third win of the season.

The Atlanta Falcons were white-hot coming into their Week 10 match-up against the Browns. After starting 1-4, the Dirty Birds of Georgia had won three straight to make it to the .500 mark. Cleveland was in the midst of a losing streak, standing at 2-6-1. But in Baker Mayfield’s best game so far, the rookie quarterback led the Cleveland Browns to a 28-16, their third win of the season, their most since 2015. Let’s get some instant reactions.

Baker Mayfield’s Best Performance

The Baker was, pun very much intended, cooking on Sunday afternoon. Mayfield took full advantage of Atlanta’s injury-riddled secondary. With Keanu Neal out for the season, the Browns feasted on long runs and intermediate passes all day. Not to take away the performance of one Nick Chubb, who made history this week, but more on him later.

Mayfield had a perfect first half this game, and didn’t slip up much in the second half. Everything seemed to be clicking for the young gunslinger, and it showed in this game. Another Rookie of the Week award may be coming your way, Baker, but not if your teammate has anything to say about it.

Nick Chubb Makes History

Yes, the Browns’ rookie running back from Georgia showed himself to be a serious threat in the backfield in week ten. In addition to contributing to Cleveland’s 200+ rushing yards, Chubb made history against the Falcons. With a 92-yard run, Chubb broke the receord for longest run in Cleveland Browns history.

The run actually topped Bobby Mitchell’s 90-yard rush in 1959, and Jim Brown’s career long run of 80 yards. Chubb has made huge strides as a rookie, and this is one of them. The Browns may just have two Rookie of the Week candidates this time around, and with the way the fan votes have been leaning, this one might be a toss up.

Playcalling Finally Gets Creative

Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens decided to play some real-life Madden today. With trick play after trick play in the first half of the contest, Kitchens wanted to get cute, and it only cost the Browns once. On a pass intended for Mayfield, thrown by running back Dontrell Hilliard, the Browns threw their first (and only) interception of the game.

If John Dorsey has any say in next year’s coordinators, he may want to keep Kitchens. The play-calling finally looked good, and even though it seemed too creative at times, the bravado is very admirable.
