Cleveland Browns: Damarious Randall shows how team felt about Hue Jackson

Cleveland Browns safety Damarious Randall reacted to the news that Hue Jackson would be joining the Bengals, and it’s another example of how the team felt about Jackson.

Cleveland Browns safety Damarious Randall has been known to not be afraid of letting people know his opinion on topics.

That aspect of his personality leads many to believe that is the reason why the Green Bay Packers traded him to the Browns this off-season – a trade in which the Browns pulled off a highway robbery.

After seeing the news that former Browns head coach Hue Jackson would be joining the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff as a special assistant, Randall responded via Twitter.

Randall believes that the main reason why Jackson got the job was because the Bengals want any information about the Browns that they can get before they face off this season. Randall’s tweets are just another example of current Browns players not looking very highly at Jackson.

Following Jackson’s firing, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said, “From what I hear, Baker Mayfield is not going to exactly miss Hue Jackson.” – via Keith Britton of 92.3 The Fan.

Since Jackson and Todd Haley were fired, Mayfield has looked like a different player on the field. He seems much more confident and is starting to make plays at a high level again. Credit should also go to new offensive coordinator for helping Mayfield with his play-calling.

After Jackson was fired, reports surfaced that there were members of the team that were frustrated with what he was doing as head coach. Robert Klemko of the MMQB reported on why players and coaches were frustrated with Jackson.

"Jackson, who had a leaguewide reputation as a relentless self-promoter when he took the Browns’ head coaching job in 2016, removed himself entirely from offensive install sessions last spring and summer. Then, in the weeks leading up to his firing, he inserted himself back into offensive meetings. The disconnect created by Jackson’s inferior knowledge of Haley’s offense, and the players’ unfamiliarity with Jackson’s scheme, frustrated players and coaches alike, according to five sources within the organization. – Robert Klemko, The MMQB"

Klemko also reported that members of the organization felt that Jackson played up his character and tough attitude for the Hard Knocks cameras during training camp. Once the cameras were out of the facility, Jackson had a completely different attitude.

Klemko did point out that there were current players and former players that supported Jackson and appreciated what he did for the organization, including defensive captain Christian Kirksey.

When watching the Browns the last two weeks with Gregg Williams as head coach, it is evident that the entire team is playing with more energy. They are not expecting something to go wrong that will cause them to lost the game. Instead, it looks like they expect to win, even when things aren’t going their way.

Williams has brought a different voice to the players, and it seems like the team is responding better to him than they responded to Jackson. Reports out of the team’s facility is that the Browns practices over the past two weeks have been the best practices the team has had all season.

Randall’s tweets may only be a subtle jab towards Jackson. But combined with all of the other reports since Jackson’s firing, it seems like Jackson was on the bad side of a lot of players in the locker room.
