Cleveland Browns: This is one season where ‘What If’ doesn’t fit

The Cleveland Browns enter the bye week with the playoffs almost certainly out of reach yet again. But instead of playing the “What If” game, maybe it’s time to turn the page.

This time in the season has become all too familiar for Cleveland Browns fans. Mock draft discussion begins. And we start asking the “What If” questions. What if there had been no tie? What if Zane Gonzalez would have made a kick? What if the officials hadn’t handed the Raiders a game?

I’ve also been tempted to play the “What If” game. I hate knowing that this will be another season of unfulfilled playoff hopes for the Browns.

But this year, after the game against the Falcons gave us a 3-6-1 that could obviously be better, I find myself thinking maybe all the things that happened had to happen.

More from Browns News

If we had won the first Steelers game and/or the Saints game and for sure the Raiders game, the Browns might be 6-4 at this point, or even 7-3. Then again, if our record was that good, we would assuredly still have Hue Jackson as our head coach.

And, the internal discord would be muted. Winning is a powerful deodorant.

Instead, it feels like a breath of fresh air is blowing off Lake Erie. Baker Mayfield is exhibiting all of the qualities that fans expected. Nick Chubb has been maybe even better than we expected.

Interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens seems to understand that an NFL offense is supposed to be unpredictable and even fun. And interim head coach Gregg Williams seems, so far, to be striking all the right notes.

I’m realistic. I’m not expecting the Browns to win the remainder of their games. And with four out of the last six games on the road, I wouldn’t lay odds at 3-3, but it certainly seems like the puzzle pieces are finally starting to fit for the Cleveland Browns.

Next. Checking on the moves that have not worked. dark

So no matter where this season goes from here, let’s cheer on the kids and get excited about a bright future because I think it may finally be here.
