Coming out of their bye week the Cleveland Browns get an opportunity to take out the Cincinnati Bengals and Hue Jackson at the same time.

The only problem the Cleveland Browns should have with the Cincinnati Bengals hiring Hue Jackson is figuring who to make the thank you letter out to. Do they write it to Marvin Lewis or Mike Brown? They should probably just write two to cover all their bases.

When Marvin Lewis announced that Jackson would be added to his coaching staff it didn’t come as a shock to anyone. Jackson and Lewis have a history together and never tried to hide their admiration for one another. It was easy to connect the dots. The announcement did mercifully end Jackson’s hilariously brutal media tour, but that is not why the Browns should be thankful.

The Browns should be thankful for the extra motivation. Hue Jackson’s firing is truly the gift that keeps giving. It was the ultimate case of addition by subtraction. But thanks to the Bengals misstep the Browns get some bulletin board material just in time to get them ready to go coming out of the bye week.

It is hard to imagine a scenario that could galvanize the Browns more than facing their old coach in the same season that he was let go. The fact that Jackson was brought to Cincinnati to be a turncoat will not go unmentioned in meetings this week.

In the recent weeks since Jackson’s firing the team has played visibly more inspired football under interim head coach Gregg Williams and offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens.

There have been fewer penalties and more continuity on both sides of the ball. The biggest difference has been the play of Baker Mayfield, who has looked much more like the player who came in against the Jets in week 3.

Next. Turkey, stuffing, and the Cleveland Browns. dark

Mayfield is the ultimate chip on the shoulder player and will no doubt be ready to take it to his former coach. Expect the rest of the team to follow their young leader and play their most inspired game of the season. Hue Jackson might finally have a positive impact on the Cleveland Browns.
