Speaking with reporters ahead of the Cleveland Browns Week 12 game at Cincinnati, Baker Mayfield took a couple subtle jabs at former coach Hue Jackson

It became apparent rather quickly that the Cleveland Browns players weren’t sad to see head coach Hue Jackson leave.

This went counter to the belief he was a player’s coach and that everyone loved him, but it just seems like no one believed in him as a winner. With good reason.

Jackson compiled a record of 3-36-1 during his two and a half seasons, but it was his propensity to blame others — especially his players — that really wore out his welcome.

After he was gone, there were reports that team leaders like Baker Mayfield weren’t going to miss the coach. And if Mayfield’s latest comments are any indication, there’s probably a lot of truth there.

While Mayfield has been good about looking forward and not discussing Jackson, he did answer questions about him ahead of their Week 12 contest with the Cincinnati Bengals, where Jackson is serving as an assistant coach.

The belief is that Jackson was brought there to give the Bengals some insight to the Browns offense, but Mayfield said “just no” when asked about Hue giving the home team an advantage.

That tweet from 92.3 The Fan’s Keith Britton was great for fans to hear. Mayfield has never been one to shy away from saying unorthodox things and usually, a quarterback will give a scripted answer about how great a former coach will be. Mayfield simply saying no was dismissive and, quite frankly, great — as was the smirk he had when saying no.

So too was Mayfield commenting about Hue having a quick turnaround to go south:

There were other gems during Mayfield’s time speaking which included him wearing a Bowling Green hoodie and also saying he didn’t wake up “feeling dangerous” yet because it isn’t game day. Then he started talking about winning six in a row to get back into the race.

Never change Baker Mayfield. He’s the quarterback we not only deserve, but also the one we need.
