The Cleveland Browns are bringing Terrance Mitchell back from the injured reserve, which could give their passing defense a huge boost down the stretch

One of the more underrated signings made by the Cleveland Browns this offseason was the move to pick up cornerback Terrance Mitchell.

A former seventh-round pick out of Oregon, Mitchell bounced around a couple of teams before making his mark with the Kansas City Chiefs. Then he was signed by Dorsey, who obviously knew about him from his time with the Chiefs.

Mitchell was able to win a starting job and played well for four weeks before a fractured forearm sent him to I.R. His recovery has gone well enough that the Browns are designating him to return this season — which uses up one of their two slots allowed for returning players from the injured reserve. He still has to miss two more games, with a Week 14 return seeming to be likely.

Mitchell was proving to be a force in his time with Cleveland. He’s a physical corner and had 19 tackles, two forced fumbles, and an interception before his injury.

He was also featured on ‘Hard Knocks’ where he played tight coverage on Jarvis Landry and frustrated the No. 1 receiver to the point a fight broke out.

That same style of play has led to opponents being frustrated with Mitchell. His ability to shadow receivers is impressive and his lack of fear when it comes to contact also can get under the skin of opposing players.

Mitchell can improve the defense down the stretch, which is very encouraging considering that side of the ball is already playing so well.
