Cleveland Browns: Grady Jarrett, 2019 free agent target
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns are a couple solid moves away from competing in the AFC North and one writer thinks Grady Jarrett should be on their radar in 2019
General manager John Dorsey came into Berea like a wrecking ball, but that’s exactly what the Cleveland Browns needed. After winning one game and losing 31 between 2016 and 2017, the Browns needed some new players — and a change of leadership.
Dorsey got to work quickly and added some key pieces. He picked up players like quarterback Tyrod Taylor, running back Carlos Hyde, safety Damarious Randall, and wide receiver Jarvis Landry in free agency. The goal here was to fill holes with veterans who could start if necessary — but he wasn’t done as Dorsey hit the draft and ended up finding some studs who have passed up those veterans.
We all know how that went as players like Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, and Nick Chubb have all become starters and have also won multiple Rookie of the Week Awards. While all this is great, the work isn’t done and Dorsey still needs to add players in the offseason to take the next step, and one writer has a good idea for a player to kick the tires on.

Recently, Maurice Moton of NFL Spin Zone picked one player every NFL team should target in the 2019 offseason. For the Browns, he pointed to Grady Jarrett, the defensive tackle who currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons.
"“The Browns would likely have to pay top dollar for Grady Jarrett, who’s going to look for a second deal at 26 years old, but he’s worth the price. The fourth-year defensive tackle has steadily improved as a pass-rusher, he’s two sacks away from reaching a career high in the category and maintains a strong presence in run defense.Last year, Jarrett logged 34 solo tackles and 15 tackles for a loss. This season, he missed two contests with an ankle injury but returned with a little fire in his belly, logging three sacks and three tackles for a loss over the previous three outings.” — Moton, NFL Spin Zone"
While the Browns have some studs on their defensive line, splurging on Jarrett could be a great move. He’s one of the more impressive young interior linemen in the game and is still just 26 years old. He’s also shown up huge in the brightest lights, like when he sacked Tom Brady three times in Super Bowl LI.
Putting a player like Jarrett on the same line as Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah would give the Browns one of the most feared lines in the entire NFL.
They would surely still need to get themselves some help on the offensive line as well as at linebacker, but those could be addressed in the NFL Draft. Making this move though gives them a shot at going from a good defense to an elite one.
