Comparing Cleveland Browns Nick Chubb to other top rookie running backs
By Mitch Zoloty
Receiving Yards
"1. Saquon Barkley: 530 receiving yards 2. Kerryon Johnson: 203 receiving yards 3. Phillip Lindsay: 160 receiving yards 4. Rashaad Penny: 75 receiving yards 5. Nick Chubb: 48 receiving yards 6. Sony Michel: 31 receiving yards"
The numbers here are pretty astounding for Barkley and is more of a testament to his usage than the other running backs. The Giants have relied heavily on Barkley this season, basing their entire offense around him and Odell Beckham Jr.
Each of these other running backs haven’t had nearly as many targets. Barkley has had 76 targets so far this season, as many as Johnson, Lindsay, and Penny have combined.
Chubb only has ten targets on the season, which is a small sample size to base his catching ability on. Chubb has caught only six passes this season, which is the second lowest catch percentage of his targets. Only his fellow Georgia alum Michel has a lower catch percentage. Both of the Georgia running backs aren’t known for their ability as pass catchers.

This stat isn’t as worrying as it seems for Chubb, considering Duke Johnson takes the role as the Browns best receiving running back. The duo is very comparable to Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara, just not as talented yet. Give Chubb and Duke a few more years together and they could transform into the best running back tandem in the NFL and the Browns best duo since Earnest Byner and Kevin Mack.
Receiving Touchdowns
"1. Saquon Barkley: 2 receiving touchdowns 2. Nick Chubb: 1 receiving touchdown (tie) 2. Kerryon Johnson: 1 receiving touchdown (tie) 2. Phillip Lindsay: 1 receiving touchdown (tie) 5. Rashaad Penny: 0 receiving touchdowns (tie) 5. Sony Michel: 0 receiving touchdowns (tie)"
This is another one of those stats that can be deceiving since all of them are so close. None of the running backs have been racking up receiving touchdowns this season. Barkley leads the category with two receiving touchdowns, but he has had a significantly more catches than the other running backs.
Chubb scored his receiving touchdown in the Browns win against the Falcons. For as many times he has been in the end zone this season, it is odd to think that he just has one.
